Wearable Art Cashmere Wool Coat – A Visual Manifesto of Cultural Pride
Where Textile Artistry Meets Design Innovation
The Wearable Art Cashmere Wool Coat isn’t just outerwear — it’s a visual love letter to culture, heritage, and craftsmanship. A bold, radiant orange wool-cashmere blend anchors the body of the coat, contrasted by handwoven black-and-white cotton fabric from Senegal. This rich juxtaposition between softness and structure gives the coat an unmistakable presence — regal, grounded, and expressive.
At the heart of this garment is storytelling through embroidery. The symbols — including a lion, a baobab tree, a stylized human face, and the map of Africa — are all hand-embroidered by a Senegalese artist commissioned during our travels to West Africa. These designs speak to ancestry, strength, beauty, and belonging.
This is what we mean by wearable art. You’re not just wearing a garment — you’re wearing a journey.
The Materials: Cashmere Meets Culture
We sourced the vibrant silked orange wool-cashmere blend in Los Angeles — a fabric that provides both visual impact and tactile luxury. It was then cut and prepared in our studio before traveling over 7,000 miles to Senegal.
Once there, we collaborated with a local artist to hand-embroider cultural symbols onto the fabric. We also sourced handwoven black-and-white cotton textiles, traditionally made by Senegalese artisans using methods passed down for generations. These textiles were then incorporated into the sleeves and lining to contrast and complement the cashmere — marrying softness with structured weaving.
The coat was finally assembled back in Los Angeles, where it was lined, finished, and tailored for a sleek fit.

A Lapel Like No Other: East Meets West
What sets this coat apart is its lapel design — a hybrid between a traditional coat lapel and a Japanese kimono collar. This structural blend adds a unique sculptural detail to the neckline and frames the front embroidery in a way that elevates the coat from simple outerwear to high-concept design.
The coat is fully lined with clean inner finishing, creating an interior just as luxurious as the exterior.
Symbolism in Every Thread
The Wearable Art Cashmere Wool Coat features hand-embroidered motifs, each with symbolic depth:
-
Lion: power, pride, and leadership.
-
Africa: unity, origin, and cultural grounding.
-
Baobab Tree: wisdom, endurance, and ancestry.
-
Abstract Face: humanity, complexity, and expression.
-
Linework: ancestral energy and movement.
These are stitched directly into the cashmere, becoming part of the coat’s very structure — not just surface decoration.
