Today, the town stands as a UNESCO-recognized site of Afro-Colombian heritage and resilience.
The bold “BENKOS” print on the hoodie honors Benkos Biohó, the legendary African leader who founded Palenque in the 1600s. Alongside it, the words “NUMANO MI” translate to “my brother” in the Palenquero creole language—a phrase still used among locals as a symbol of brotherhood and solidarity.
